Orakei Basin Stand Up Paddle Board Group Adventure

Get a group of friends or work mates together and explore one of Auckland’s hidden gems, the Orakei Basin and adjacent Waiatarua stream.

Orakei Basin is one of the volcanoes from the Auckland volcanic field. After eruption about 85,000 years ago, it became a freshwater lake that had an overflow stream in the vicinity of present Orakei Rd bridge. As sea level rose after the end of the last Ice Age, the lake, was breached by the sea and has been a tidal lagoon ever since.

This group adventure starts with full instruction before we head across the lake to the start of the Waiatarua stream. Sea birds, fish are sometimes seen and narrow waterways are explored.

Stand Up Paddle-boarding is a fun and relaxing activity that nearly anyone who has a sense of balance can do. It is also one of the best all body work outs. This group activity is good for all body shapes and Stand Up Paddle-boarding is a good combination balance, strength and endurance. It is recommend to have average fitness to enjoy this group adventure.

All SUP equipment and instruction provided.

Nothing beats exploring new places and it’s even better with a group. The perfect way to end the adventure is by having a few pints at Brothers Beer.
